Self-taught musician Avril Lavigne was born in Ontario, Canada. Her debut album Let Go (2002) made her an internationally recognised superstar. Today she has been nominated for 8 Grammy awards and sold more than 40 million albums worldwide. Other than music she is also interested in fashion and film and has released a successful line of fragrances.
Growing up in rural Canada, Avril Lavigne had an early interest in music and taught herself to plays 3 instruments and wrote her own songs. As a teenager she already performed with big names of the country genre such as Shania Twain. She signed her first record deal at the age of 16, which is also when she decided to leave school and concentrate on her music. Her debut single Complicated became an instant hit and paved the way for a successful career. Lavigne has always been associated with a punk aesthetic reflected in her trademark style as well as musical influences, which include her former husband’s band sum41, the Ramones and Nirvana. She has released 5 successful albums to date and had several number one hits with songs such as Girlfriend, Hello Kitty and I’m With You which was famously sampled by superstar Rihanna. Lavigne also co-wrote Kelly Clarkson’s hit Breakaway and has been involved in the soundtrack of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Recently the singer also discovered her talent for acting and starred in several films including the acclaimed Fast Food Nation by Richard Linklater. She also released her own clothing line in collaboration with US retail chain Kohl’s. A sufferer of Lyme disease herself, Lavigne supports young people with illnesses and disabilities through The Avril Lavigne Foundation.
Avril Lavigne released a successful fragrance line for women which was first introduced in 2009 with the award winning Black Star. Black Star (2009) combines a fruity top note with a floral heart and a base of chocolate, vanilla, sandalwood and musk. A year later the floral fruity Forbidden Rose (2010) was introduced in a purple bottle featuring a black rose on the cap. The scent’s top of red apple and peach is spiced up with some peppery notes which melt into a heart of Granny Smith, heliotrope and lotus and linger in a warm base including notes of Mexican chocolate, vanilla and sandalwood. The sweeter and fresher Wild Rose (2011) features the same bottle in a light pink version. Avril Lavigne perfume is released in collaboration with Procter & Gamble.
