Prada Perfume & Women's Fragrance

When he founded the fashion company in 1913, Mario Prada was not expecting it to be in the hands of a woman several years later. Despite his belief that women should not manage the business, his daughter Luisa took over the company after his death. In the late 70s Miuccia Prada, her daughter, was holding the reins of the business.

By drawing inspiration from the military world, Miuccia designed a line of backpacks and bags in parachute nylon material trimmed with leather. These soon became best-sellers and defined her rise within the high-fashion world. These bags are still her signature today and are still best-sellers. Three years later, in 1988, she released her first womenswear collection, under advice of husband and businessman Patrizio Bertelli.
Prada’s collections have always drifted away from the common beauty standards and appear to be chic in an unexpected way. Miuccia states that this call for ugly-chic is completely intentional. She once said that she wanted to turn lace into a non-sexy fabric. She did, and she loved it. She always claims that she designs clothes for women’s brains, not for their body. Her creations are in fact much more artistically and psychologically complex than what one would imagine. She states that her collections are for those women/wives/daughters who want to dress to please, arouse, placate, make proud and sometimes deceive their men.

Prada’s first fragrances were artisan made and focused on one scent only, such as Iris, or Orange Flower, or Violet. It was not until the late 2000s when Prada added other fragrances to this collection and released the “Infusion D’Iris” and “Infusion D’Iris Absolue”. Prada’s first best-selling perfume was “Prada Eau de Parfum”, released in 2004. It is a fresh, aromatic and oriental fragrance for women. Another popular fragrance is “Prada Candy”, containing a mix of musks, vanilla and caramel.
